The Vocational Advancement Center (VAC), a private non-profit agency, provides training and employment services to people with disabilities to achieve career goals and to improve their quality of life. VAC promotes choice, dignity, respect and independence while assisting individuals to maximize work opportunities and earnings potential.

VAC was created in 1957 as part of the Greater Boston Association of Retarded Citizens (GBARC). In 1981, VAC became a separate corporation with an independent Board of Directors and its own distinct mission. During 1990, VAC relocated to 221 North Beacon Street in Brighton, which, with the help and support of many friends, became our permanent home in 1995.

VAC’s Board of Directors is comprised of 11 active officers and directors who meet monthly.

A group of 8 Honorary Board Members contribute to VAC through consultation on specific projects.

VAC has just concluded it's final year in the three year Boston Marathon Charity Program. We will hopefully participate again starting in 2008.
